While both life coaches and therapists help individuals improve their lives, therapists typically focus on addressing mental health issues and past traumas, while life coaches focus on helping individuals achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being. A simpler way to put it is this: therapists tend to look to the past and ask 'why did this happen', while coaches look to the future and ask 'what are your goals and how can we accomplish them'.
100% confidential! Trust is important. What happens in our sessions, stays in our sessions.
Our sessions together are stress-free and judgement-free. Judging my clients would serve neither of us in a positive way. Instead of criticizing, I listen with an open mind and allow clients to explore their feelings in a safe space.
I strongly encourage anyone who's considering hiring a coach to look at their prospective coach's education and ensure their training will make them a great fit!
My education is vast and hopefully never-ending!
To begin, (20 years ago) I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree at Trent University from 2003 until 2007. Years later, in 2010, I went back to school and earned my Technology Diploma from Sir Sandford Fleming College in a condensed course that ended in 2012.
In 2015 I began a course with La Leche League Canada where I spent two years learning how to coach and support growing families. During this time I also completed a Communications Skills course led by Janette Taylor. I've continued to keep up with my communications training as it is one of the pillars of being a coach and a doula.
During the lockdowns of 2020/2021 I completed Life Coaching and Professional Organizing courses with NAPO.
In 2021 I continued my coaching training with Relationship Coaching courses by Transformation Services, as well as Sexual Wellness Coaching training by Peggy Guglielmino. In 2022 I studied Relationship Coaching from Dr. Bev Knox as well.
I studied with Doula Canada, taking their Postpartum Doula course during the summer and fall of 2024.
I also enjoy self-study on a daily basis, as well as continuing to look for future courses and education opportunities. (I'm presently looking into taking Herbology courses at the moment and I'm so excited about the possibility of adding natural health services to my offerings!)
I believe when working in this industry it is essential to keep up with new research. The world is always changing and coaches have to as well.
